Reality Check

"what I'll never get is why you could open your heart to someone who broke it into pieces but you couldn't open it to someone who just wanted to heal it."

This may sound sooo sweet and romantic to most people but to me it conjures up the feeling you get when shoved into an ice cold shower and your body goes into such shock that all you can do is to inhale very sharply. And you pray that noone has a camera available to take the oh so lovely candid shot of your expression. I know this all seems very dramatic and the reality is that it kinda is.

History lesson

"Some people believe that without history, our lives amount to nothing. At some point we all have to choose: do we fall back on what we know, or do we step forward to something new? It's hard not to be haunted by our past. Our history is what shapes us... what guides us. Our history resurfaces time after time after time. So we have to remember sometimes the most important history is the history we’re making today."

Commitment

"People who avoid commitment are people who know what a big thing it is."
Commitment is a big thing and not something to take lightly in any type of relationship. Whether it be romantic, friendship, work, or a familial relationship. When you make a commitment to any of these relationships, it is a big deal. It means that you're willing to make the sacrifices and go the long haul with these people you choose. Therefore, avoiding commitment with certain people just means that you have made a decision, whether consciously or subconsciously, to not go through the thick and thin with them. It doesn't mean that you are heartless, I think it just means that a person is more self aware of their own natural selection process.

Relationships

I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.
